UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), is a federation of seven emirates on the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula. The Seven Emirates are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Umm al-Quwain, Fujairah, Ajman and Ra’s al-Khaimah. The UAE is the only federation in the Arab World, the Seven Emirates were unified under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1971. Abu Dhabi serves as the capital of the UAE.

The country is wedged between Oman and Saudi Arabia, has rocky desert, wetlands, waterless mountains and coastlines that stretch along the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. Prior to the discovery of oil in the mid-20th century, the UAE's economy was based primarily on fishing and pearling industries. When oil exports began in the 1960s, the country’s economy rapidly transformed. Today, the UAE's per capita gross domestic product is on par with those of leading Western European nations.

The United Arab Emirates is one of the world’s fastest growing tourist and business destinations, boasting world-class hospitality, ultramodern infrastructure and a location at the crossroads of the Arab World and Asia.
