BAHRAIN

The Pearl of the Gulf

The Kingdom of Bahrain has been called the ‘Land of Eternity’ and the ‘Pearl of the Gulf’ representing the rich heritage, culture, and beauty of the 33 natural islands and several man-made ones. It has a deep history, a vibrant present, and a bright future. A unique country unlike any other, Bahrain is definitely worth a visit.

Bahrain, an island long known for its tolerance, coexistence, and freedom of religion, has always welcomed people from different faiths and backgrounds to its shores. You can find mosques, churches, temples and the synagogue all side-by-side. It is home to the only indigenous Jewish community in the Arabian Gulf, which dates back to the 1880s.

Bahrain offers something for everyone – if you are interested in ancient history, Bahrain was the center of the ancient Dilmun civilization. If you are interested in modern history, Bahrain was the pearling hub of the gulf.

The Abraham Accords

On September 11, 2020, the Kingdom of Bahrain announced that it would be establishing relations with Israel and just a few days later, the famous Abraham Accords were signed.

What you’ll see

As we embark on a new era in the Bahrain-Israel relationship, we invite you to visit Bahrain and to learn about its heritage, culture and of course, the Jewish community. As you walk in the Manama Souq, you will visit the House of Ten Commandments, the only functioning synagogue in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). You will also visit the Jewish cemetery, which is the only operational one of its kind in the GCC.

Visions of Abraham has pledged to donate 18% of our profits from trips to Bahrain to the Association of Gulf Jewish Communities, which is the umbrella organization for the Jewish communities of the GCC countries that is working to build and enhance Jewish life in the region.
